For those seeking a more hands-on experience, the museum offers interactive installations that invite you to explore the themes and motifs found in Poe’s literature. Unleash your creativity at the “Tell-Tale Heart” station, where you can create your own suspenseful stories using magnetic word tiles. Step into the “Nevermore” exhibit, where you’ll find yourself surrounded by the eerie atmosphere of Poe’s most famous poem. As you walk through the dimly lit room, you’ll hear the haunting cawing of ravens and feel the weight of the words as they echo through the space.

Restoration Projects and Initiatives

We are committed to protecting, preserving and celebrating the rich history of the city, the house, and the legacy of one of our most beloved denizens. Changing exhibits and tours are scheduled from time to time. The house isn’t very furnished, but much of what does still exist, by way of furnishings both interior and exterior, are original to the time that Poe stayed there (1830s). Guests can see a few exhibits, including a telescope and a writing desk (a portable one!) which were thought to be used by Poe. When the home was active, he lived there with two cousins, his aunt, and grandmother; you can see some of their kitchenware still on display.

The museum, established in 1949, offers a unique glimpse into the world of Edgar Allan Poe. It showcases various artifacts, personal belongings, and interactive displays that provide visitors with an immersive experience. The transformation of the house into a museum ensured that future generations could appreciate the genius of Poe and gain insight into the life of this literary icon. Each live session has limited seats to encourage interactive discussion and personalize the session for the group. Due to limited space of the historic site, reservations are required to tour Poe House.

Grab a commemorative Poe funeral handkerchief and prayer card. It always amazes me how many great authors seemed to perish in a way that fits their writing styles and greatest works. The brilliant ringmaster of the museum kept us captivated in her re-telling of the three major theories surrounding Poe’s mysterious death.

The imposing brick church was built in the early 1850s and several early mayors of Baltimore and heroes of the American Revolution rest alongside Poe and his wife, Virginia. Group tours of Westminster Burying Ground and Catacombs can be arranged year-round for groups of 15 people, minimum, but self-guided tours are available for free whenever the burial ground is open. His legacy lives on in Baltimore today, thanks to his original home turned museum in downtown Baltimore. His poem “The Raven” is the namesake of the Baltimore Ravens NFL team.

The family was forced to move from Amity Street in 1835 after the death of the grandmother, Elizabeth Poe, and the loss of her pension. Celebrates the Baltimore native son who happens to be the greatest baseball player in history. Located inside the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Harbor East, Apropoe’s restaurant has a gothic feel and a subtle nod to Edgar Allan Poe. Dishes are classic American inspired by local fare with names like the Poe burger. The Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum is housed in the same building Poe lived in while in Baltimore.
